Out Front Brands

  • Situation

Most designers will reluctantly admit our own branding often falls to the bottom of our to-do list—as the adage goes, “The shoemaker’s children go barefoot.” The same was true of Out Front Brands, already a busy little branding and design agency when I came on board in 2015. While the name and tagline were firmly in place, the agency lacked a cohesive visual identity, focused message, online presence, and marketing strategy.

  • Strategy

Getting to know the team’s personal and professional objectives proved to be just as important as the extensive competitive and demographic research conducted. The all-female firm was determined to stand out from the local competition by visually and conceptually communicating fierce dedication to empowering women while elevating small businesses to memorable, recognizable brands.

  • Solution

We repositioned Out Front as a specialized branding agency by paring down their original service offering from 14 categories to 3 main areas of focus, and by targeting messaging to small businesses in particular. The concept of the existing tagline—’fresh, fierce, forward’—was embodied in a modern logo featuring a peregrine falcon at the leading edge of a clean, sans-serif word mark in the agency’s primary colors—orange, white and deep grey. The rest of the color palette reflects the ‘fresh’ aspect, adding dark teal and apple green. Brand applications included:
